1000s of runners take to Sheffield's streets for half marathon
Road closures are in place as 1000s of runners take part in the Yorkshire Half Marathon in Sheffield.
Thousands of runners are taking part in this year's Yorkshire Half Marathon in Sheffield.
Amongst the 7000 facing the 13.1 mile course there'll be former World Cup Referee Howard Webb and Sheffield’s World Boxing Champion Kell Brook.
It starts at 9:30am from Arundal Gate with the first finishers expected in front of the Town Hall at around 10:45am.
Thousands of supporters are expected to line the course, which takes competitors out of the city centre towards the Peak District and back again.
Roads will be affected from 4:30pm on Saturday until 4pm on Sunday with a number of road closures in place around Ecclesall Road, Ecclesall Road South and the town centre.
With hundreds of charities represented, thousands of pounds are expected to be raised for a wide variety of causes.
Among those taking part is Elliot Walker.
He's from Sheffield Futures which is a charity supporting vulnerable young people around a range of issues including employment and sexual exploitation.
He said:
“We’ve got community youth teams across Sheffield, that are in the North, East and West of Sheffield, and they run over 70 different activities a week.”
“The money that is raised just goes to supporting these services and I’ve seen the impact that Sheffield Futures has delivered and it’s absolutely fantastic.”
“There are vulnerable people all across the city and Sheffield Futures is providing a service which empowers them and creates positive futures for these young people.”
In addition to the main event, junior runners will have their own chance to compete in the event with a 1.5km route for kids aged 3-8 and 2.5km run is for children aged 9-14.
