It feels as though Idris Elba has been touted as the next actor to take on the iconic role of James Bond since the dawn of time. However, nothing has ever come of the rumours, and Daniel Craig has signed up to the next film already.
But this time, the Luther actor himself has fanned the flames by posting a rather cryptic tweet, sending fans absolutely wild.
Yesterday (12th August), Idris posted an arty edited selfie on his Twitter profile with the very misleading caption, 'My name’s Elba, Idris Elba.'
Of course, as we all know, it's a reference to James Bond's famous catchphrase, 'The name's Bond, James Bond.'
Obviously, everyone went nuts for the post and it now has over 32,000 retweets, 156,000 likes and 4,300 comments 24 hours on.
Most of the comments were people praying for Idris to take on the role, as one wrote, 'If you're the next Bond, it will be the first Bond film I ever see,' and another added, 'Idris Elba is the PERFECT man for Bond, James Bond.'

However, Idris has been forced to backtrack after the tweet clearly blew up more than he was expecting, as he's now taken to Twitter in yet another post which reads, 'Don’t believe the HYPE...'
Unfortunately for Idris, this was not nearly enough for fans who have now convinced themselves that Idris will be the next 007.
One fan joked, 'Are HYPE the criminal organisation you have to take down, 007?' and another added, 'NOOO! Let us believe this hype! You deserve this role, and I for one, would love to see you as the new James Bond!'
