Young Muslims supporting Mission Christmas

Sheffields diverse communities at its best

Over 50 toys have been donated to the Mission Christmas Appeal by the local Sheffield chapter of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association (AMYA). When local youth leader for AMYA Sheffield, Saeed Nazir, heard about Hallam FMs appeal for gifts, he felt it was in line with AMYA’s national ‘Muslims for Humanity’ campaign in which their volunteers have been serving local communities for decades, especially the vulnerable and sick over the winter. He added: “As Muslims we are encouraged to partake in charity and we are reminded of our social responsibility to help our local communities, particularly those who are disadvantaged. Christmas is an important time for many people and we are hopeful that the donated toys will bring smiles to the children who receive them.” The youngsters aged 7 to 15 bought the gifts themselves and collected them at the Baitul Affiyat Mosque on Effingham Road, before heading down to donate them personally. AMYA is the UK’s largest and leading Muslim youth organisation and charity. It is committed to the spiritual, moral, intellectual and physical development of young Muslims and runs a regular programme of structured activities for the youth with a mix of academic, sporting, social welfare and charitable works which keeps its members engaged. The purpose of all these activities is to engender the spirit of discipline and service to the wider community irrespective of people’s beliefs, race, or gender. The Ahmadiyya Muslim community’s motto ‘Love for All, Hatred for None’ underpins this ethos.
