Some Coronation Street viewers blasted the show on Twitter last night (Monday 5th September) after a scene aired between characters Billy Mayhew and Todd Grimshaw.

The episode involved Billy (Daniel Brocklebank) and Todd (Bruno Langley) check into a hotel for some alone time and enjoy a passionate kiss, however some viewers blasted the scene for being aired before the 9pm watershed.

One Twitter user wrote “#Corrie let’s hope they finish during the adverts! No more gay action please." Another added “#Corrie tonight was sickening. Most now tolerate the practice but we don’t need it rammed down our throats."

After seeing the homophobic messages, Daniel, who plays Billy in the soap, hit back on his Twitter account saying “Had many angry tweets saying ‘I’m disgusted my kids saw men kiss on tv’ I’m disgusted they left it up to tv to teach their kids how love works”.

After sending the tweet, Daniel received hundreds of tweets from Corrie fans who seemed to be equally disgusted at the messages.

The 36-year-old has since thanked fans for their support, and asked them ‘let’s not hate on the homophobes’. He wrote “Thanks for ur AMAZING messages! Let’s not hate on the homophobes. We’re bigger than that. Hate breeds more hate. They need love & education.” (sic)

Daniel joined the popular soap back in December 2014 and has since become a fan favourite. Before joining, the actor also enjoyed roles in Emmerdale, Casualty, Doctors and Waterloo Road.
