Coronation Street actor Rob Mallard was the victim of some harsh online abuse earlier this year when he appeared to be 'shaking' during an interview with Holly Willoughby and Phillp Schofield on This Morning.

Rob, who plays the role of Daniel Osbourne in the ITV soap, joined his Coronation Street co-star Lucy Fallon back in January to discuss what was in store for their characters. But as he was interviewed by Holly and Phillip, Rob appeared to be shaking uncontrollably, leading many viewers to ask why he was so nervous.

Watch the interview below:

After receiving a number of negative comments, with some even asking if he'd been drinking, Rob made the decision to return to the This Morning sofa where he revealed a secret health battle.

Admitting he has an essential tremor, Rob revealed he was incredibly 'embarrassed' after his appearance in January.

According to the NHS, an essential tremor is 'uncontrolled shaking movements in parts of your body - most commonly your arms and hands.'

After revealing to Holly and Phillip that he suffered from the tremor mainly in his hands and head, Rob went on to add, "By the time I’m 50 it could well be in the voice box and back of the spine.”

This Morning viewers were quick to thank Rob for raising awareness for the condition, with many of them calling him 'brave'.

Revealing Coronation Street bosses are 'great' with him, the 25-year-old confessed he uses a number of props in scenes to hide the side effects of the tremor during filming.

Rob was joined by This Morning's Dr Ranj Singh during his interview, where Dr Ranj listed a number of ways to treat the tremor.

The actor made the decision to open up about his condition as March is National Essential Tremor Awareness Month. Over 10 million, ranging from toddlers to the elderly, are affected by tremors on a daily basis.

Rob first joined Coronation Street as Ken Barlow's youngest son in September 2016. The actor has since been involved in a number of high profile storylines.

You can watch Rob on Coronation Street, weekdays on ITV.
