Multiple rounds of heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected on Thursday, potentially causing significant disruption across affected areas.

The Met Office has given these warnings for people in Wales:

  • Driving Conditions: Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures.
  • Public Transport: Flooding or lightning strikes may cause delays and some cancellations to train and bus services.
  • Power Cuts: Power outages might occur, impacting homes and businesses.
  • Property Damage: Flooding could damage homes and businesses quickly, with potential harm from floodwater, lightning, hail, or strong winds.
  • Floodwater Danger: Fast-flowing or deep floodwater poses a potential danger to life.

An area of showery rain is expected to develop and move northeast across parts of Wales, the Midlands, and northern England, remaining heavy and possibly thundery through Thursday morning before easing by midday.

Rainfall totals may reach 25-50 mm over several hours.

Scattered heavy showers and thunderstorms are forecast for Thursday afternoon and evening in south Wales.

These could produce over 50 mm of rain in 1-2 hours, along with gusty winds, large hail, and surface water flooding risks.
