Former rugby player Gerwyn Price is the new world number one in darts, after becoming the first Welsh player to win the William Hill World Darts Championship.

The 35 year old from Markham thrashed two-time winner Gary Anderson 7-3 in the final at London's Alexandra Palace.

The half a million pounds prize money sees him replace Michael van Gerwen at the top of the world rankings, just seven years after switching sports to play darts professionally.

Price said its a lot to take in:

"I am the World Number One, World Champion. I mean, to be able to say that... I never even dreamed of it really. Until this year."
