An arctic walrus, previously spotted off the Pembrokeshire coast, has been sighted in Icelandic waters.

Nicknamed "Wally", the creature also made appearances in Cornwall, France and Ireland.

Having not been seen in 22 days, he's now been sighted in Iceland, with experts from the British Divers Marine Life Rescue and Seal Rescue Ireland confirming the photographs do seem to be the same animal.

It means Wally travelled over 900 kilometres since his last spotting in Cork, Ireland.

Experts believe he is now on his way back to the arctic.

On Facebook, the British Divers Marine Life Rescue added: "We are so grateful to the many members of the public and other organisations who have shown support and love for this walrus by giving him a safe place to rest and gather his strength while visiting our shores ahead of this magnificent journey.

"Thanks to his ability to feed and rest, he has successfully made the long stretch and will hopefully reunite with his own kind again soon. Please always remember to give wildlife space, and put their safety and welfare first!"
