A vigil is taking place following the homophobic murder of a consultant psychiatrist in the city’s Bute Park.

Three people – two men and a 17 year-old girl – were found guilty last week of murdering Doctor Gary Jenkins in July last year.

Dr Gary Jenkins was a father-of-two

The case has caused widespread horror- because of the level of violence directed at Dr Jenkins – who was a father-of-two.

Jason Edwards, 25, Lee Strickland, 36, and Dionne Timms-Williams, 17, who can now be named, admitted taking part in the assault on Dr Jenkins and pleaded guilty to manslaughter and robbery.

They also pleaded guilty to assaulting another man who tried to protect the victim.

But all three were convicted of murder after an eight-day trial at Merthyr Crown Court.
