Three Neaths Schools Register Covid Cases
Staff and pupils told to self isolate
Three schools in Neath are now affected by cases of coronavirus.
225 pupils at Dwr-y-Felin Comprehensive in Neath are having to self isolate after a student tested positive for coronavirus.
Two primary schools are also afected.
One pupil at Cwmnedd has tested positive which has resulted in seven other pupils and three members of staff required to self-isolate .
Three members of staff at Coedffranc are also isolating.
A Neath Port Talbot Council spokesman said: “Neath Port Talbot Council’s Test, Trace, Protect service is working to support Dwr-y-Felin Comprehensive School following a positive coronavirus test result. One pupil has tested positive and following discussions with Public Health Wales, it was determined that the entire year group of 225 pupils will be required to self-isolate until Wednesday, 23rd September.
“Staff at Dwr-y-Felin Comprehensive School acted promptly and in line with national guidance, and parents of the children concerned have been contacted and advised of the appropriate action to take.
“The Test Trace Protect service is also in contact with members of staff to support them to minimise the spread of the virus. Control and safety measures are in place and are being strictly followed to limit any further transmission. The school has extensive cleaning, hygiene and other measures in place, in line with government operational guidance.
“The safety of the whole school community has been at the forefront of all decisions made by the school. School staff remain vigilant to pupils displaying symptoms, and are ready to take appropriate action.
“The school remains open and it is not necessary for any other pupils to self-isolate, stay away from school or to be tested, unless they themselves develop Covid-19 symptoms.”
One pupil at Cwmnedd Primary School has tested positive and subsequently, in line with Public Health Wales advice, seven other pupils and three members of staff will be required to self-isolate for 14 days. Parents of the children concerned have been contacted and advised of the appropriate process to follow.
The second confirmed case concerns a member of staff at Coedffranc Primary School, who attended the school during an inset day last Thursday, however no pupils were present at the time. Three further members of staff are currently isolating.
