Teenage artist's astonishing work to go on display in Royal Academy

The portrait by Swansea Year 9 pupil Makenzy Beard has been greeted with amazement

A Year 9 school girl from Swansea who took up painting during lockdown will see an astonishingly detailed portrait she painted on display at the Royal Academy.

The painting by Bishopston Comprehensive pupil Makenzy Beard has been selected for exhibition at the Young Artists' Summer Show in London, from 13th July - 8th .

And not surprisingly, reaction on social media after her school shared their congratulations was one of amazement at the artistic talent shown by someone so young.

Plaid Cymru Leader in Westminster Liz Saville Roberts was one of those admiring the painting and said she would visit the exhibition:

"This portrait is extraordinary - such sensitivity and exceptional technique. Llongyfarchidau. I’ll do my best to visit the exhibition"
