There's a fresh plea from Police in South Wales not to leave dogs in hot cars.

Posting on social media, officers say they are still receiving calls reporting it, despite multiple posts raising awareness in the past week.

With temperatures today reaching 30 degrees Celsius, officers say the inside of a car can reach 50 degrees in just half an hour.

In a Tweet, South Wales Police added: "But the message is still not getting through to everyone: that dogs die in hot cars.

"It doesn't matter if the car is parked in the shade or has the windows open."

It comes as South Wales has a Met Office warning in place for "extreme heat" until Thursday evening, the first of its kind.

Temperatures are expected to reach 32 or 33 Celsius in the coming days.

In online advice, the RSPCA explains what to do if you see a dog in a car on a warm day: "In an emergency, we may not be able to attend quickly enough, and with no powers of entry, we'd need police assistance at such an incident.

"Don't be afraid to dial 999, the police will inform us if animal welfare assistance is required."
