A man has died just over a week after falling from a sixth floor window at Swansea University.

19 year old student Matthew Gilbert was taken to Cardiff's University Hospital of Wales in the early hours of Sunday 14th of April.

Officers say he died in hospital on Wednesday after the fall at the university's Singleton campus.

His family and students are being supported by specialist police.

In a statement, Swansea University said: "Matthew was a first-year student with us studying LLB Law with Criminology. He was making excellent progress with his course. His loss is felt by all who knew him."

"We are working closely with students and staff to support them through this difficult time. As there is an ongoing investigation by police and coroner, it would not be appropriate to comment further at this time."
