The founder of Signposted Cymru, Darren Thomas, is appealing for the public's help in providing essentials and clothing for Afghans arriving in the UK.

He launched his plea on Twitter, asking his followers for clothes, electrical goods, chargers that they could donate to Afghan refugees.

He stressed that the items must be new, due to Covid regulations.

Darren served in Afghanistan as a soldier and returned as a civilian contractor in 2017.

He says that 2 weeks ago, he heard that two of his interpreters, who helped him whilst he was in Afghanistan, had been killed by the Taliban.

He says he will pick up donations from people, wherever they are in the country, to save others driving long distances.

'They're amazing people'

Darren says: "I feel really passionately that they are amazing people. They just want peace as much as we do and if anybody can help, please. What they have done for us is amazing".

"These people have helped UK soldiers, US soldiers, the governments by working with us out in Afghanistan, by saving countless lives, British lives out in Afghanistan".

He adds: "This is really an urgent appeal. Just imagine, you and your family being taken away from your homes in 24 hours, landing in a foreign country with just your clothes on your back. We really need to help these people so whatever you can donate would be amazing".

He says the response to his appeal on Twitter has been "awesome".

Darren has posted a list of essentials that people need on his Twitter page:
