They have bravely shared their story as part of a South Wales Police campaign.

In south Wales, between September 2019 and October 2021, there were three cases of manslaughter that occurred as a result of a one punch incident.

Detective Chief Inspector Mark Lewis said: “This piece of work aims to remind people that in a split second someone can become a killer and someone can be killed.

“One punch can cause injury resulting in devastation and a lifetime of regret.

“South Wales Police is committed to tackling violent crime and reducing the numbers of victims and perpetrators, but we need people to really think about their actions and lifestyle and what may be causing them to becoming violent.

“Taking drugs and drinking too much alcohol can affect your decision making and make people vulnerable to becoming a victim or perpetrator.

“I also want to ask family and friends of those who start to become violent on a night out – what are the triggers, what can you do to help them prevent an escalation?

“A split second decision to engage in a violent situation can change and impact so many people’s lives. If you ever find yourself in this situation, please walk away.”
