A Scottish teenager's been hailed a hero after leaping into a Swansea lake to rescue a drowning dog.

Connor Telford, from Dundee, had never swum before but managed to bring Charlie the Shih-Tzu safely back to his owner in Penllergare Valley Woods.

Jane Warner, from Glais in Swansea, says Charlie holds a special place in her heart after he was gifted to her by a friend who died from cancer two years ago.

"I'm disabled, so there was no way I could've swum out to get him. I felt really helpless.

Luckily Connor, his girlfriend Grace and her mother had seen what was happening.

"Before I knew what was going on Connor had dived in," said Jane.

"There was no sign of Charlie - he'd gone completely under.

"If Connor hadn't jumped in, I have no doubt that Charlie would have died.

"And Connor was also quite shaken up afterwards. I'm really grateful to him for risking his own safety the way he did.

"It was only when we met up again that he told me he'd never swam before. He is a true hero!"
