Police appeal for witnesses to serious assault
We've had an update on an incident near Pontypridd train station this morning.
Police say they are looking for witnesses to what they are calling a serious assault near Pontypridd train station, which left a 25 year-old man with puncture wounds to his legs.
He's now in hospital with what have been described as superficial injuries.
It happened at around 11:30 - the scene was cordoned off and police helicopters attended.
South Wales Police have stepped up patrols in and around the area .
Detective Inspector Emma Hampton, said:
“We are continuing with our extensive enquiries to identify those responsible, and local officers have stepped up patrols in and around the area. The assault occurred in a very public place at a time when the town would have been busy - we need anybody with information to get in touch.”
Officers are checking CCTV and also liaising closely with British Transport Police.
A police cordon remains in place in the car park outside the train station.
