A Swansea mum is demanding a review of teaching in Wales for children with additional learning needs.

Clare-Anna Mitchell from West Cross has launched a petition with the Welsh Parliament calling for compulsory training in regulation techniques for all teachers and teaching assistants.

Clare-Anna told us: "There's no policy that says they have to learn about these needs which is crazy because it means that 40% of the children in our schools at the moment are not being taught properly.

"It is so important that people, parents understand these traits so they can bring things up with the education system, they can bring things up with the school, the doctor and they can be referred for assessment if needs be.

"I want more teaching assistants who are highly trained and well paid and - that's the key - that we can't seem to keep out brilliant TA's who work so hard because they're not paid very well and its a very hard job.

"I'm absolutely convinced that it will result in happier children, less stigma, disruption in the classroom as well as long term results such as lower crime rate, drug and alcohol abuse, suicide rates and homelessness."
