Newport man jailed after pleading guilty to assaulting man in city centre
25-year-old Ahmed Mohsen has been put behind bars for 11 and a half years following the incident back in April
A man from Newport has been jailed - after pleading guilty to assaulting a man in the city centre.
It happened back in April, with 25-year-old Ahmed Mohsen admitting to GBH with intent - and possession of a bladed article in Cardiff Crown Court this week (October 30).
Officers were called to High Street, Newport, at around 3.40am on Sunday 23 April after the victim, a 24-year-old man, was found with injuries.
He's been handed a sentence of 11 and a half years following the incident - something Gwent Police has called a 'frightening ordeal'.
Detective Sergeant Wendy Davies, a supervising officer in the case said: “Ahmed Mohsen left the victim with serious injuries following the sustained attack.
“This was a frightening ordeal for everyone involved and I hope the victim can take some comfort from the fact that Mohsen is serving a significant custodial sentence.
"Knife crime can have devastating consequences and while it remains rare in Gwent, I hope this sentencing shows that violence will not be tolerated and robust action will be taken against those responsible."
