Miss Wales seriously injured in M4 car crash
The 21-year-old suffered a broken pelvis and two broken bones in her neck after the accident near Bridgend earlier this week
Miss Wales 2022 has been seriously injured in a car crash.
It happened on the M4 near Bridgend earlier this week, with Darcey Corria suffering a broken pelvis and two broken bones following the incident.
Despite her injuries, organisers of the 2022 Miss World competition say they're 'confident' that she will be able to take part in the final of that competition, which happens later this year - in May.
The 21-year-old is said to be recovering in the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff.
Ms Corria, from Barry, South Wales, is a black rights activist.
She also became the first woman of colour in the pageant's 70-year history to be crowned Miss Wales.
A spokesperson for Miss Wales said: "We are saddened to tell you that our wonderful Miss Wales, Darcey Corria, has been hospitalised after a car crash near Bridgend this week.
"She is in the University Hospital of Wales being treated for a number of injuries including a broken pelvis and two breaks to bones in her neck.
"Darcey is receiving much love and support from her close family who have been reassured that she is expected to make a full recovery."
On social media, people have also been sharing their messages of support to the Miss World hopeful.
One comment from Lisa Jukes said: "Wishing you a speedy recovery and you determination and support from everyone will get you through this awful time."
Another, from Gillian Williams, said: "Sending hugs Darcey Corria - you are a strong and determined lady. You have a lot of support from your family as well as friends and you will get through this."
The Miss World team are still hopeful that Darcey will still attend Miss World - thanks to her determination and the support she has received.
The spokesperson added: "While the accident will have an immediate impact on Darcey's preparation for Miss World in May, we are hopeful and confident that she will still be able to fly the flag for Wales thanks to her own personal determination, the love and support of her family and the incredible team of medics at UHW."
