The 76-year-old cyclist who died following a crash on Water Street, Margam on Saturday, October 14 has been named as Mike Perkins from Porthcawl.

Mike’s family has paid tribute. They said: “Mike, as he was known to his family and friends, although born in Birmingham, settled and grew up in Porthcawl.

“Mike was a loving brother, a great uncle and friend and was well thought of and respected by everyone who knew him.

“He had the chance in life to work Iin Australia and Europe as a carpenter, but for the last thirty years or so returned back to his roots in Porthcawl.

“Mike loved the outdoor lifestyle and if he wasn’t out cycling would be found happiest pottering around his garden.

“Although he was a very private gentleman, he was eager to support community projects such as RSPCA and wildlife charities.

“Mike was one of a kind and to us he was the salt of the earth.

“He is going to be sadly missed by all his family, friends and anyone who knew him.

“Finally, we would like to offer our thanks to all the emergency services and any members of public that attended at the scene and tried to help him.”
