A 50 year old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a man suffered a serious assault in Port Talbot.

Officers were called to Victoria Road in Sandfields at around 6:45pm on Saturday night.

A 32 year old man was taken to the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff where police say he remains in a critical condition.

South Wales Police say a crossbow was recovered from the scene and the circumstances are being investigated.

The force also says it's understood the two men were known to each other.

A cordon remains in place - within a block of flats on Victoria Road.

Detective Chief Inspector Paul Raikes, said: “We understand there is concern in the community - I would like to reassure people that we have one person in custody and we are not currently looking for anybody else.

“The two men involved are believed to be known to one another and an investigation into the circumstances is ongoing.”
