Man arrested after woman dies in Mountain Ash collision

Collision occurred in Penrhiwceiber on Thursday night

A man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after a woman died in a collision in South Wales.

It happened at around 8.05pm yesterday evening on Church Street, Penrhiwceiber, Mountain Ash.

Police Sergeant Darren Westall, from South Wales Police, said: "A blue Ford Focus collided with a 76-year-old woman. Despite the best efforts of emergency services, sadly, the woman died at the scene as a result of her injuries.

"Next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers. My thoughts remain with family and friends.

"A 24-year-old local man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He currently remains in police custody at Merthyr Tydfil Police Station.

"We want to hear from anybody who witnessed the collision, the manner in which the car was being driven in the moments prior to it, or anyone who stopped at the scene to provide assistance.

"We are also appealing for any dash-cam, mobile phone or CCTV footage which may assist the investigation."
