A man has been arrested after reports of a serious assault in South Wales.

Police were called to Belmont Walk in Cardiff shortly after 9am this morning.

Officers are urging the public to avoid the area as investigations continue this afternoon.

In a statement, South Wales Police said: "Shortly after 9am today (Sunday, February 18) South Wales Police responded to a report of a serious assault on Belmont Walk, Butetown, Cardiff.

"One man has been arrested.

"There will continue to be an active police presence in the area as we progress enquiries.

"Local road closures are in place and members of the public are advised to avoid the area.

"Anyone with information is asked to please contact South Wales Police quoting occurrence number 2400049818."
