A 23 year old man who asked young girls for indecent pictures by gaining their trust on social media has been jailed for 12 years.

Jack David Peter Jones from Llandovery admitted to 12 charges - including with children under the age of 13.

He's reported to have started his messages on Instagram with just one word - 'hi' - using social media platforms to start conversations with girls as young as nine years old before encouraging them to send him indecent photos and videos.

He was caught after a mum got in touch with the police after her daughter received videos from a stranger on Instagram.

After an online investigation by police, their Online Investigation Team later carried out a warrant at his home and they took his phone for examinations.

A detailed digital investigation identified four potential victims – one was just nine years old.

They later found two more.

Officers contacted each of these girls to gain evidence and put measures in place to make sure they were safe.

Jack David Peter Jones admitted to 12 charges:

  • Four counts of causing or inciting a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity
  • Three counts of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity
  • Two counts of making indecent images of a child
  • Causing a child to watch a sexual act
  • Sexual communication with a child
  • Attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child
