Large-scale cannabis factory discovered in Newport in armed police raid
Gwent Police officers carried out a warrant in the city centre in the early hours of yesterday morning (November 2)
Two people have been arrested in Newport - after police discovered a 'large scale cannabis farm' during an armed raid earlier this week.
Officers from Gwent Police carried out a warrant in some flats in the early hours of yesterday morning (November 2) above a pub in the city centre - with their team discovering a jungle of the plants.
The raid was carried out above the Salt and Pepper Tavern and The Alexandra, located in the city centre of Newport - although it's been confirmed that neither of the two pubs are linked to the flats above, where the raid was carried out.
Officers have called the flat a 'large-scale factory' of the Class B drug, and those arrested have now been taken into custody.
They say it's part of their work to tackle serious and organised crime.
In a post on TikTok, Gwent Police added: "Two arrests following a successful warrant in Commercial Street, Newport.
"Officers carried out a warrant in flats above a pub in Newport city centre this morning as part of our ongoing work to tackle serious and organised crime.
"A large-scale cannabis factory was found and is set to be dismantled over the coming days.
"Two men were arrested on suspicion of producing a controlled Class B drug – cannabis.
"Well done to all the teams involved, from response and neighbourhood to firearms and four-legged colleagues."
