Investigation underway after death of man in Newport

An investigation is underway after the death of a man in Newport.

Gwent Police say they were called to Chepstow Road at around 6pm on Tuesday evening after a man was found unresponsive.

Paramedics from the Welsh Ambulance Service confirmed a 36 year old man had died.

Police have confirmed his death is being treated as suspicious.

His next of kin has been told and are being supported by specialist officers.

Chief Superintendent Matthew Williams said: "We would like to reassure the communities of Newport that we are doing everything we can to establish the circumstances surrounding his death.

"Officers are currently in the area carrying out further enquiries; if you have any questions or concerns, please do speak to them. "Our thoughts remain with the victim’s family and friends.
