This week looks like being another of misery for hay fever sufferers in Wales.

Hay fever is a common allergic condition. It affects up to 1 in 5 people at some point in their life- according to the NHS.

The allergic reactions is due to pollen released by plants.

Pollen is a fine powder released by plants as part of their reproductive cycle. It contains proteins that can cause the nose, eyes, throat and sinuses to become swollen, irritated and inflamed.

Airborne allergens expert Max Wiseberg comments, “Pollen forecasts are very high for Wales this weekend. With grass pollen now in peak season, most hay fever sufferers will be affected. It is estimated that 95% of all hay fever sufferers are allergic to grass pollen.”

Max's top tips to lessen hay fever symptoms:

  • Wear wraparound sunglasses when you’re outdoors to help prevent pollen particles coming into contact with your eyes.
  • Tie your hair up and wear a hat, cap or other head covering when outside to help prevent pollen particles being caught in your hair.
  • Don’t dry your clothes on a clothes line outdoors, as pollen particles will be blown onto the clothes by the outside wind; dry them indoors instead.
  • Use a combination of natural products and conventional medicine.
  • Avoiding the allergen is key: apply an organic allergen balm on the nose and around the eyes.
