A man has been jailed for 17 years after being found guilty of rape, false imprisonment, strangulation, coercive and controlling behaviour and assault.

34-year-old Ali Mahmood Abdulmageed from Heath was found guilty following a trial and he was sentenced at Cardiff Crown Court yesterday.

Members of the public intervened in an incident involving Abdulmageed in Cardiff in August 2022. The Police were called and he was arrested.

Detective Constable Ian Booker, from South Wales Police, said:“Ali Mahmood Abdulmageed subjected the victim to a series of violent and degrading assaults.

“We hope today’s sentencing brings some comfort to the victim and allows her to begin the process of regaining her confidence.”
