Gower Road between Pen yr Heol Road and Glan yr Afon Road in Sketty has been closed until at least Tuesday afternoon due to an 80 foot tree at serious risk of collapsing on to the road.

The road is closed until at least mid-morning Tuesday until wind has died down enough for specialists to start work making the tree safe.

Motorists are being urged to avoid the area and use a different route particularly during Tuesday’s rush hour.

Access to properties only is allowed in the stretch between Pen yr Heol Road and Glan yr Afon Road

The road was closed and diversions set up via Park Way and Sketty Park Road Monday afternoon after Swansea council highways teams were called to the incident.

An inspection of the tree showed specialist equipment was needed and work will start on the tree on Tuesday morning.
