Police given authority to carry out stop and search in Gabalfa

It's following reports of serious violence in the area

South Wales Police have issued a Section 60 Notice which gives officers the authority to stop and search anyone in Gabalfa in Cardiff.

The notice will remain until 7am tomorrow (Saturday, July 13).

It means any constable in uniform can stop and search pedestrians for carrying weapons or dangerous instruments without good reason.

The searches will be carried out in this area

It's following recent incidents of disorder and serious violence which has included items such as rocks being thrown at police vehicles.

Section 60 is aimed at preventing serious violence, to find dangerous instruments or to apprehend persons carrying weapons.
