Nathan is in intensive care 500 miles away from his home in Killay and will undergo surgery in the next week or so.

Family friend Andrew Kissick told us: "It's devastating. I can't imagine what the family are going through. Initially he was diagnosed with life-threatening injuries, they have said now the brain injury isn't as serious as they first thought. But the spinal injury is far worse than what they ever really could have imagined. He's got two surgeries coming up over the next week or so, which are vital to him moving forward."

Nathan's wife Catrin has set up a Go Fund Me page to help cover the initial cost of the expense of staying close to him in a hotel. Over two thousand people have donated money so far - with the initial target of £10,000 surpassed and now heading towards £80,000.

Andrew says the amount raised so far is amazing: "Absolutely incredible, and I think it just goes to show how well liked he is as a person, how well respected he is as an athlete. You know 2,000 people putting the money aside to donate anything. It's incredible. It's really touching. I'm sure it gives the family that little bit of comfort to know that."

A website has been set up called 'All With Nath' which will provide regular updates on how Nathan is doing. It also aims to keep people up to date on the latest fundraising activities. Nathan will need long term help and support with his rehabilitation, so events like football matches, walks and bike rides are being planned to help cover the cost.
