Formal identification of explosion victim to take place

Police say formal identification of the man who died in a suspected gas explosion in Swansea is expected to be carried out on Tuesday afternoon.

Three others were hurt in the blast which happened at around 11.20am yesterday in Morriston.

One person remains in hospital in what is described as a stable condition.

Two properties were extensively damaged and other neighbouring properties were also affected.

The incident saw over 100 people evacuated from their homes.

A rest centre has been set up at Morriston Memorial Hall and some people were housed overnight at local hotels.

South Wales Police has issued an update saying the number of households who remain unable to return is now less than 30.

Investigations into the cause of the explosion is ongoing with emergency services still at the scene on Clydach Road, Morriston.

The Health and Safety Executive has also been informed.

In a statement, South Wales Police have thanked the community for their support and co-operation and our thoughts remain with everyone affected by this incident.

The local authority continues to offer assistance and provide updates to affected residents from Morriston Memorial Hall.
