The so-called "firebreak" lockdown has started across Wales to try and slow the spread of Covid 19.

For the next 17 days, people can only leave home for limited reasons, including buying food, exercise and to provide care.

Police are stopping vehicles leaving Wales to find out why they're travelling.

Officers are patrolling routes into the Forest of Dean this weekend - fines will be issued to anyone breaching the rules.

Public Health Wales recorded 761 new cases on Friday and a further 13 deaths from coronavirus.

Meanwhile, those in the hospitality industry fear what impact the tighter restrictions will have on their businesses.

The Welsh Government is to provide a package of almost £300m to support businesses, which will complement wage-support schemes available from the UK Government.

Opposition parties have called for clarity on what will happen when the lockdown comes to an end on November 9th.

Why a firebreak?

A short, sharp, national lockdown will:

✔️ Reduce the amount of people in contact with each other
✔️ Slow the chain of infections
✔️ Save lives

It’s success depends on us all playing our part.
