Across the UK the number of Coronavirus patients is nearing the peak seen in April.

Cardiff and Vale has thanked those who have stepped in to support its critical care unit.

Surgeon Shakir Mustafa from Cwm Taff University Health Board has said non-Covid patients could be put at risk if admissions to critical care units continue to rise.

"If it's filled with Covid patients it does not mean that we are just dealing with Covid and not dealing with anything else.

"It does mean that we are unable to physically someone who has had a bleed following giving birth, or someone with a burst appendix, or someone suffering from sepsis in the community, who comes in and requires a critical care bed.

"We would therefore like to take care of all our patients whether they have Covid or not. At the moment we are at a stage where this is under threat across South Wales."
