A joint investigation between South Wales Police and Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service is underway after a fire in Swansea which claimed the life of a 3 year old boy.

A 51 year old man remains in a serious condition at Morriston Hospital following the blaze in Gonhill, West Cross at around 1.20pm on Saturday.

A 13 year old girl and 39 year old woman were treated for smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire - which was contained to one property - is currently unknown.

An online fundraising page has been set up with the community wanting to help the family affected.

Clare-Anna Mitchell who lives nearby set it up.

She said: "Obviously, it's not going to ease the pain of losing a child, losing their house and possessions but what I'm hoping its going to do is show that them that the community is there for them and we are there to support them".

Detective Inspector Carl Price, from South Wales Police, said: “Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of the young boy who sadly died at a house fire in West Cross, Swansea.

“An investigation is continuing to establish the exact circumstances of the fire.

“We wish to acknowledge the efforts of the local community for the support being offered and provided to the family following this tragic incident.”
