Former Wales Centre Cory Allen has announced his retirement from professional rugby union at the age of 29.

He has been struggling with a knee problem since 2019 and had not yet made an appearance for the Dragons since his move from the Ospreys in 2021.

"I really would have loved to have thanked everyone by being able to run out and represent the club on the field, but unfortunately that wasn't meant to be," Allen told the Dragons' website.

"I'd like to say a massive thank you to everyone at the Dragons for the last 18 months.''

"I wish everyone at the club all the best in the future, and I'm sure with the trajectory they're on and with the amount of improvements I've seen in my time there, more positive things are just around the corner."

Allen made his first debut at 18 plying for his hometown club Cardiff in 2011.

He made his first appearance for Wales against Argentina in 2013 and went on to win 6 caps for his country.

He was selected for Wales' 2015 world cup squad, and scored three tries in their opening match against Uruguay, winning 54-9, in Cardiff.
