Cardiff City only Welsh side remaining in Carabao Cup contention
Swansea, Newport and Wrexham were all knocked out in the second round.
Cardiff City are the only Welsh side that remain in the Carabao Cup and progress to the 3rd round after beating Birmingham 3-1.
Despite a half time lead thanks to a goal from Matt Grimes and later one from Jamie Paterson - Swansea lost 3-2 to Bournemouth at the Swansea.com Stadium.
It was a massive night for League Two's Newport County who held top flight side Brentford to a 1 but went on to lose 3-0 on penalties.
It was a penalty shootout that also saw Wrexham knocked out - losing to 4-3 Bradford City.
Cardiff City boss Erol Bulut said: "I am delighted because today we played without centre-backs, we created a back three with midfielders.
"After the opponent was with 10 players we get a little bit relaxed and thought the game was finished. It is not finished, sometimes against 10 players it is more difficult.
"We need centre-backs, today we tried to create centre-backs. I hope at least one, maybe two centre-backs.
"I cannot see anything, wait until Friday then we will see some surprises - I hope."
