Captain Sir Tom Moore has died in hospital with Covid-19.

The 100-year-old pandemic hero raised almost £33 million for the NHS by walking 100 lengths of his garden in April last year.

Initially aiming to raise £1,000, the Army veteran’s plight soon went viral receiving donations from all around the world.

He was admitted to Bedford Hospital on Sunday morning to receive help with his breathing after contracting Covid-19.

A spokesperson for Captain Tom said he had not received the Covid-19 vaccine due to ongoing treatment for pneumonia over the past few weeks.

His family announced the sad news on his official twitter account.

The centurion was hailed an “inspiration” for his fundraising efforts which encouraged others around the country to take on challenges in support of the NHS.

He was even knighted by the Queen last July.
