It's the first day of lockdown in Caerphilly and Gwent Police start policing the new rules after cases in the area surged.

Family and friends living apart will no longer be able to meet indoors, stay overnight, or form extended households. Masks will have to be worn shops and noone is able to enter or leave the area without a valid reason such as work.

Health Minister Vaughan Gething said yesterday the measures have been put in place for a reason:

"I do not want to see a second wave returning; I do not want to return to this press conference each week to explain the numbers of infection rates, the numbers of people in hospital and the number of people losing their lives.

"That is what is at stake. That is why we have introduced these new restrictions."

The regulations will be enforced by police and the council. They apply to everyone living within the county borough area and are set to be in place until at least October.

New Greek island quarantine rules

Also from this morning Welsh holidaymakers travelling from the Greek islands of Santorini, Serifos and Tinos will have to quarantine for 14 days.

Vaughan Gething made the announcement last night.
