Woman pedestrian dies in crash involving van in Caerphilly

Another person is in a critical condition in hospital

An investigation has been launched after a collision involving a van and two pedestrians, which resulted in the death of a 67 year old woman.

Emergency services were called to the incident at Nantgarw Road at about 7.50pm on Friday.

It's since been confirmed that one pedestrian, a 67-year-old woman from the Caerphilly area, has died.

A second pedestrian, a 58-year-old man from the Caerphilly area, remains in a critical condition in hospital.

Police have arrested a man in connection with the incident. He's being questioned on suspicion of death by dangerous driving, causing serious injury by dangerous driving, driving whilst under the influence of alcohol, and driving whilst under the influence of drugs.

A statement by Gwent Police says, "One pedestrian, a 67-year-old woman from the Caerphilly area, has died and we have specialist officers supporting her family.

"A second pedestrian, a 58-year-old man from the Caerphilly area, remains in a critical condition in hospital.

"A 48-year-old man, from the Caerphilly area, has been arrested on suspicion of four offences:

  • death by dangerous driving
  • causing serious Injury by dangerous driving
  • driving whilst under the influence of alcohol
  • driving whilst under the influence of drugs

"He remains in police custody being questioned"
