Former Wales and Newport rugby union captain Brian Price has died aged 86.

The forward from Deri, near Bargoed, has been described as one of Wales' greats, first playing for the country in 1961 and selected for the British Lions in 1966.

He had a long career with Newport, playing 252 games with the side.

In 1963, he captained the Newport in their victory against the All Blacks and earned 32 international caps for Wales including two Triple Crown wins in the 1960s.

Newport RFC have paid tribute to the player in an post on X, describing him as "one of the greatest players to have worn the Black and Amber jersey."
