Asylum seekers are expected to start arriving at a Llanelli hotel from today.

Despite protests and a last minute bid for a High Court injunction - 241 migrants are to be placed at the Stradey Park hotel in Furnace while their asylum claims are processed by the Home Office.

On Friday, Carmarthenshire County Council argued at the High Court that using the hotel for asylum seekers would be a breach of planning conditions but that bid to prevent the hotel being used failed.

A further hearing will be held this afternoon where its expected the reasons it was turned down will be laid out.

The 77 bed site will now be used to house more than 200 migrants with groups expected to start arriving from today.

The Home Office has said the use of hotels is necessary because of a backlog in processing asylum applications adding the system is under 'incredible strain'.
