The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inducts a select few artists every year to commemorate their contribution to music. The highly anticipated process starts with the announcement of nominees, which has now been revealed for the 2022 intake.

This year's potential inductees include first time nominees Beck, Duran Duran, Eminem, Dolly Parton, Lionel Richie, Carly Simon and A Tribe Called Quest, as well as other artists who were previously nominated and are back in the running again this year; Pat Benatar, Kate Bush, Devo, Eurythmics, Judas Priest, Fela Kuti, MC5, the New York Dolls, Rage Against the Machine and Dionne Warwick.

To be eligible to join the Hall of Fame, 25 years must have passed since an artist released their first commercial recording. Of the nominees, only 5-7 will be inducted this year, based on a vote from a committee of over 1,000 people, made up of artists, historians and members of the music industry. There is also an 'induction fan vote' starting in April. You can vote for your favourite nominees at vote.rockhall.com.

Speaking about this year's selection of candidates, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation chairman John Sykes said: "This year’s ballot recognises a diverse group of incredible artists, each who has had a profound impact on the sound of youth culture.

“Their music not only moved generations, but also influenced the sound of countless artists that followed.”

The final inductees will be announced in May and the ceremony is due to take place in autumn this year, with an exact date being announced closer to the time.

Last year's inductees included the Foo Fighters, The Go-Go's, Carole King and Tina Turner.

On 14th March, Dolly Parton released a statement confirming she was turning down the nomination. She said: 'Even though I am extremely flattered and grateful to be nominated for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, I don’t feel that I have earned that right.'

She continued: 'I really do not want votes to be split because of me, so I must respectfully bow out.'
