Homes Under The Hammer host Martin Roberts has left his followers in shock after documenting a recent health scare where he only had 'hours to live'.

The 58-year-old took to Twitter to share a video of himself in hospital, as he revealed he had a massive amount of fluid around his heart, which made it 'stop working'.

He said: "Well, I have to say this isn’t where I expected to be watching Homes Under the Hammer. Little bit of good news, little bit of bad news. I ended up in hospital in Bath yesterday.

"I had a few chest pains and just feeling generally lousy, so I was brought in here and turns out I had a massive amount of fluid all around my heart, which was actually stopping my heart working.

"Had they not got rid of it, which they did in an emergency operation last night, then it’s sort of quite serious, like, hours to live kind of ----.

"So here I am, still around, thank goodness, thank god and angels, all those things."

The popular host added: "There’s lots of other complicated things that have happened as a result, but we will work through those, and I’ll keep you updated. Meanwhile, there’s a good TV show on that I think I’ll watch here."

Martin's feed was flooded with well wishes, with many documenting their own struggles with similar issues.

One wrote: 'Get well soon. It's a shock to the system when you are told you are lucky to be alive, and if you left it any longer you might not be here to tell the tale!'

Another wrote: 'Sorry to hear Martin... Hope you're feeling better. X', with a third writing: 'Scary - all the best Martin - so glad you are in recovery!' (sic)

Martin's Homes Under The Hammer co-host Lucy Alexander added: 'Omg … omg 😳 sending you the BIGGEST hug ever. Love ya mate x'.

The shock news comes as Martin has been attempting to raise money to provide both housing and supplies for Ukrainian refugees.

The popular presenter set up a CrowdFunding page which reads: 'Help me, Martin Roberts provide much needed housing for the increasing number of people displaced from their homes since the Ukraine War.'

He went on to say: 'There is a massive and increasing need for safe & secure housing for people who've been displaced from their homes since the war in Ukraine started. I'm using my property expertise and commercial team to source and acquire suitable buildings such as dis-used care homes, hostels and hotels to convert to accommodation for the woman and children most in need of somewhere to live in the aftermath of the Ukrainian and other Wars.'

Martin also personally drove emergency supplies to the Ukrainian border last month, documenting his journey on Instagram.

On the 14th March, Martin told his followers: '1260 miles. 25 hours driving. Five countries. 427 wine gums. 8 large cans of red bull. An entire Spotify play list. An unbelievably kind and supportive mountain of encouragement from you 😘and the main part of my mission is done. Just heading to the border with sleeping bags x'. (sic)

We wish Martin a speedy recovery!
