Laila Morse is reportedly leaving BBC's EastEnders after starring as the iconic Big Mo on the soap for more than 20 years. After bosses allegedly decided not to renew her contract, it is said the 75-year-old will be leaving the show within weeks.

OK! Magazine reports that the decision to have Big Mo depart the show was mutual between the bosses and Laila. A source told the magazine, "Laila is leaving the show. Her current contract is coming to an end and execs agreed this was a good time to write her out."

Fan's minds were then set at ease, with the source claiming that the star is set to be just written out of the show, as opposed to being dramatically killed off, in true soap-style. They continued, "It hasn't been decided how Big Mo will leave. But it is unlikely to be too explosive and she definitely won't die."

Laila's iconic character has been on our screens for over two decades now, after first joining EastEnders in 2000. Despite taking the odd break from the show here and there, Big Mo has become one of the show's most legendary characters!

Speaking on Laila's potential return to our screens, the source added that, "There is no set timescale in place for her to return. It's very difficult for producers to plan ahead because of coronavirus."
