Dick and Angel confirm series 9 of Escape to the Château will be the last
It's not all bad news though!
Last updated 30th Sep 2022
It's been on our TV screens since June 2016, but we have bad news for fans of Channel 4 show Escape to the Château, as it's been confirmed the upcoming ninth series will be the last.
Married couple Dick and Angel Strawbridge, who have been renovating their stunning Château in the small market town of Martigné-sur-Mayenne for a number of years, confirmed the news on social media.
Sharing the news, Dick and Angel told fans: 'We have exciting news from Dick & Angel...
'A very good morning to you! We are delighted to announce our 9th series of Escape to the Chateau will be airing soon on Channel 4 in the UK!
'It's the ‘Year of the Celebration’ and we have so much to share – weddings and parties, fun in the Walled Garden, and of course the gorgeous Arthur & Dorothy (not bias at all) going from strength to strength.
'It’s also our finale of the classic Escape to the Chateau, it’s been an adventure of a lifetime and we could never have imagined what would unfold.'
However, although its the end for Escape to the Chateau, Dick and Angel did confirm they were working on a brand new project, adding: 'We are so grateful for all the love and support…and we promise to continue our adventures with you, just in a different way, as we venture outside the gates of the Chateau and explore the wonderful country we live in.
'Escape to the Chateau: Secret France (WT)...next year…we honestly cannot wait...Thank you Channel 4 ❤️'. (sic)
Fans of the show were quick to comment with their mixed emotions. One wrote: 'I’m sorry it’s the last one but I guess not surprised. Glad to hear you’re not disappearing though ❤️'.
Another added: 'So happy a new series is coming but sorry it’s the last - is it because you’ve run out of things to renovate?', with a third writing: 'Sad to see it’s the last series but can’t wait to see what your adventures will be in the future. Thankyou for sharing your Château journey and your family with us. It’s been a fantastic journey. 👏👏'. (sic)
Kicking off back in 2016, Escape to the Château followed couple Dick Strawbridge and Angel Adoree as they attempted to renovate 19th-century Château de la Motte-Husson in Martigné-sur-Mayenne, France.
At the time of purchase, Dick and Angel bought the run-down property for £280,000, which featured a moat, 12 acres of land and a massive 45 bedrooms.
Over the last eight series, the show has documented how Dick and Angel have restored the old property, whilst also raising their two young children Arthur and Dorothy.
The popular show also showcases Dick and Angel running their events business, which sees the stunning Château host a number of events, including spectacular weddings.
