Dolly Parton confirms Cher and Paul McCartney feature on upcoming rock album

Country legend Dolly Parton has confirmed she has drafted in more “iconic singers” for her upcoming rock album, ‘Rock Star.’ In a new interview with US chat show The View, Dolly Parton has revealed that Beatles and Wings legend Paul McCartney, Fleetwood Mac’s Stevie Nicks and Creedence Clearwater Revival’s John Fogerty will also feature on the record.
She also confirmed that P!nk and Brandi Carlile lend their vocals to a version of The Rolling Stones’ ‘(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction’ and pop queen Cher is also appearing on the record.
Parton previously said that former Journey frontman Steve Perry will sing ‘Open Arms’ on the record and Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler will also guest. She also expressed her desire to reunite Led Zeppelin’s Jimmy Page and Robert Plant to perform on her version of ‘Stairway To Heaven.’
Asked if her old friend Mick Jagger will guest on the record, Parton told the TV show: “Well, I'm doing my best to try to get him on but I did his song (‘Satisfaction’) anyway. I think P!nk and Brandi Carlile are gonna be singing on that particular song with me.
“But we got great artists like Paul McCartney is singing with me… Stevie Nicks, we just finished our song last night. We've got John Fogerty. And we've got Steve Perry and Steven Tyler.
“We got a lot of great artists, iconic singers that are going to actually be on with us. So I'm really looking forward to it. I'm even going to have Cher on. I've been getting a song for her, we've been trying to get the right thing together. That's going to be a big thrill I think.”
Last February, Dolly Parton was nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and told Billboard at the time: “I’m not expecting that I’ll get in. But if I do, I'll immediately, next year, have to put out a great rock and roll album — which I’ve wanted to do for years.”
A few weeks later, Parton announced she was “bowing out” of the shortlist as she did not “feel that I have earned (the) right” to be included on the Rock Hall’s list.
However, Dolly later made a U-turn, and she was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in November alongside Judas Priest, Eminem, Duran Duran, Lionel Richie, Carly Simon, Eurythmics and Pat Benatar.
True to her word, Parton has pressed on with making her rock album, which she has called ‘Rock Star’, and she recently confirmed that it will include versions of tracks by The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Prince, Journey, Lynyrd Skynyrd and many more.

Explaining why she initially snubbed the Rock Hall, Parton said: “I felt like that I had not spent my life and rock and roll like some of the ones that were up there, and I did not want to take votes from people that really had spent their life doing that when I had won all of my country accolades. I just didn't feel like that I had earned it.
“But then they explained to me why I was in it and all that and so I said, ‘Well, if you insist on giving it to me, I'm gonna take it!’ So if I'm gonna be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, I'm gonna have to do something to earn it so I'm doing a rock and roll album, and I have a lot of the rock stars that I met that night be on the album with me.”
Dolly Parton performed two tracks at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles in November – a new track called ‘Rockin’ and her 1973 anthem ‘Jolene.’
For the latter song, Parton was flanked by a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee supergroup consisting of P!nk, Eurythmics, Simon LeBon, Pat Benetar, Sheryl Crow, Brandi Carlile, Zac Brown Band and Rob Halford.
Clearly revelling in the “superjam” of ‘Jolene’, Judas Priest’s Rob Halford stood at the front of the stage and shared vocals with Dolly Parton.
