46 year old Deborah Holmes has been sentenced for eight incidents
A Portsmouth woman's starting a 20-month jail sentence for a string of shoplifting incidents in and around Fareham.
46-year-old Deborah Holmes of Kingston Road took £1,500 worth of items during incidents between October and December last year.
That included thefts from the Co-Op’s on Highlands Road In Fareham, Warsash Road, and Bridge Road in Park Gate, and the BP garage on Bridge Road in Park Gate.
Hampshire Police say this case shows their Neighbourhood Policing Teams are continuing to target shoplifters.
They've also said they're 'relentlessly pursuing' criminals who are violent to staff or are repeat offenders.
Tips have been shared to help protect businesses:
- Make sure staff are able to use any appropriate security equipment such as panic alarms
- Make sure CCTV cameras are in good working order, the position provides the best possible coverage and they are serviced annually
- Remind staff to report any suspicious activity to the manager or the police. Details should also be recorded and include: date, time, description of person
We're asked to report all incidents by calling 999 if it's ongoing, or 101 if it’s not an emergency.
