Famous Dorset attraction to get even smaller
A replica of Wimborne Model Town is being built to mark its 70th anniversary
A famous Dorset attraction is getting even smaller.
Wimborne Model Town has announced it is building a model replica to celebrate its 70th anniversary next year.
It will be one tenth of the size of the existing miniature buildings.
The replica will be placed by the mini Cornmarket representing its original site off West Row from 1952 to 1983.
It will be unveiled on 2 April at the start of the model town's new season.
Penri Jones, project leader and trustee, said: "It is very enjoyable to be taking Wimborne Model Town forward with this new platinum anniversary undertaking.
"It has only been made possible by utilising the many varied talents of our volunteer team."
Manager Greg Hoar said: "There's a heck of a lot of IT and technical stuff done by the project manager, Penri Jones, who has taken photographs and measurements from the model town that we have here, transcribed them into IT drawings and then briefed our 3D printer guy to print the model-model buildings.
"When visitors come here they talk about visiting as children on the old site. In fact, we had one gentleman just a few weeks before we closed bring in a picture of him on the old site in 1960.
"It has a place of affection in people's hearts."
